Millig Chosen to Help Thermo Fisher Scientific Achieve Net-Zero Carbon Emissions
KANSAS CITY, Kan., December 15, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Millig Design Build announced today that it has been selected to develop a major decarbonization initiative for Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc, a world leader in scientific technology and pharmaceuticals. Millig’s efforts will support the company’s pledge to reduce overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its operations (Scopes 1 and 2) and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
“Millig was selected for this project because of our innovative, comprehensive, and collaborative approach to decarbonizing complex systems and facilities,” said Scott McVey, president, Millig Design Build.
McVey added that Millig is uniquely positioned to decarbonize critical environments such as those found at Thermo Fisher because it brings the right expertise and the approach to project delivery that will succeed in this environment. “Millig delivers value far beyond a decarbonization plan. We provide an actionable roadmap for long-term decarbonization, and we’re able to immediately design and install the solutions we identify during our initial analysis phase.”
The industrial sector is especially difficult to decarbonize. The critical environments required for pharmaceutical manufacturing can have energy intensities as much as 50 times greater than a commercial building of the same size.
“The facilities’ process demands for high-grade heat and stringent requirements for humidity, temperature, air cleanliness, and pressure cascades can’t be compromised in the pursuit of energy efficiency,” said Lauren Donley, vice president of Millig Design Build. “But the potential for energy savings is substantial, for example from eliminating simultaneous heating and cooling and adding heat recovery.”
Donley continued, “Thermo Fisher has empowered Millig to investigate all potential opportunities, with a clean slate approach.”
