Energy Engineer
Spokane, WA (Hybrid)
Job Description:
Millig Design Build is seeking an Energy Engineer to help perform energy audits, energy savings calculations, and measurement and verification efforts for projects across the organization. This individual will be exposed to a variety of building types and building systems and is expected to use foundational knowledge of mechanical engineering to document how building systems affect overall consumption. Additionally, the successful candidate will support completion of forms and documents related to Building Performance Standards requirements and utility incentives. They will collaborate heavily with more experienced Energy Engineers on site audits, utility bill analysis, and development of energy efficiency improvement measures.
This candidate will also have the opportunity to train under some of the best engineers in the country to become an expert in designing systems to eliminate fossil fuels as a heating energy source and create high-performing district energy systems at universities, industrial pharmaceutical manufacturing plants, and state capitol campuses.
Anticipated compensation: $90,000 - $110,000 (including base salary and performance bonuses)
Primary Responsibilities:
Energy & Carbon Analysis
Collaborate with Project Development Engineers and Senior Energy Engineers to support preliminary and detailed facility studies/energy audits to identify energy conservation opportunities, facility needs and potential facility improvements.
Perform baseline energy analysis of facilities as part of Schematic and Design Development phases to understand current consumption, demand, and corresponding carbon emissions.
Break-down end use into primary categories to identify focus points and areas for potential energy savings
Calculate energy, utility cost, and carbon emissions savings associated with recommended energy efficiency and infrastructure improvement projects.
Evaluate existing and alternative options for utility rate structures, factoring in changes to usage resulting from recommended efficiency improvements
Measurement & Verification
Identify possible reasons for deviations (above or below) from expected energy usage during M&V period and collaborate with Construction and PDE group to suggest solutions to rectify savings shortfalls.
Perform data entry and analysis of baseline and post-project energy consumption to support Measurement and Verification calculations.
Energy Auditing Services Contracts
Support larger master planning contractual engagements and help strategize optimal methodologies for energy analysis at large campuses, balancing efficiency, consistency, and quality.
Secondary Responsibilities:
Provide technical assistance to the Quality Assurance and PDE groups during and following the project implementation phase.
Proficiency in document and presentation software and ability to clearly convey engineering concepts within those media.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
1-2 years of experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or similar program
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities
Experience with Spreadsheet Software (Excel/Google Sheets), CAD, and Revit
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
Familiarity with designing controls, electrical, and plumbing systems, in addition to mechanical systems
Knowledge of energy-efficient technologies and how to design them to optimize system performance
Project management skills for overseeing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines
